Eulerian RANS simulations of near-field pollutant dispersion around buildings using concentration diffusivity limiter with travel time

چکیده
To improve the prediction accuracy of pollutant dispersion near a source, limiter for turbulent concentration diffusivity accounting travel time is introduced into Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations (RANS) and Eulerian model. We predict in two-dimensional street canyon three-dimensional building arrays via conventional modeling based on simplified gradient diffusion hypothesis limiter. The results are validated using data from wind tunnel experiment. Conventional with Sct=0.3 yields similar to experimental results. However, mean source underestimated. reduces by adjusting combination model parameters improves prediction. Based result limiter, we discovered that Schmidt number definition can exceed three times downwind region. Finally, discuss effect net mass fluxes removal. For arrays, increases advective flux transports more pollutants toward leeward wall, thereby decreasing surface-sum spanwise turbulent-mass-flux at source-located side.

Airflow and dispersion around multiple buildings
A three dimensional, finite element-based, flow and dispersion model is used to simulate the transport and fate of hazardous releases in the atmosphere. Numerical results are presented for two experimental studies: (1) Airflow and dispersion over multiple blocks in a wind tunnel; and (2) Tracer study of a point release in the neighborhood of a building complex.

Traditionally the resistance of ships has been determined using towing tank experiments. Over the past two decades increased computational power has allowed numerical approaches to replicate and potentially start to replace towing tank experiments. This work investigates the quality of results that can be achieved using a commercial Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) flow solver, ANSYS CFX ...

However, large discrepancies may appear when simulated 11 predictions are compared with field measurements because of the complexity of airflow behaviour 12 around buildings and difficulties in defining correct sets of parameter values, including those for inlet 13 condi...
متن کاملPerformance of Mid-rise Buildings with Tubular Structure Under the Effect of Near Field Earthquakes
The aim objective of this study is to investigate the effects of near-field earthquakes on the response of mid-rise buildings with tubular structure. For this purpose, a 20-story building with a square plan of six by six bays, all with 6 m span, and story height of 3.70 m is considered. Axial force of columns, shear lag, and inter-story drift values are used as the main response parameters. N...
متن کاملRapid Estimation of Damage to Tall Buildings Using Near Real-Time Earthquake and Archived Structural Simulations
This article outlines a new approach to rapidly estimate the damage to tall buildings immediately following a large earthquake. The preevent groundwork involves the creation of a database of structural responses to a suite of idealized ground-motion waveforms. The postevent action involves (1) rapid generation of an earthquake source model, (2) near real-time simulation of the earthquake using ...
